The Body-Based
Anxiety Method
A somatic coaching process to stop managing symptoms and start healing your nervous system.
The Body-Based Anxiety Method
You’ve read the books. Listened to the podcasts. Tried the breathing techniques and downloaded the apps.
You understand your anxiety—and yet, it’s still there. In your chest. Your gut. Your jaw. Your sleep.
Cognitive tools can be helpful. But they only go so far when your nervous system is still caught in patterns of hypervigilance, freeze, or shutdown.
The truth is, you can’t think your way out of a dysregulated body.
The truth is, you can’t think your way out of a dysregulated body.
That’s where working with a somatic anxiety coach begins.
This method teaches you to:
Recognize your body’s stress responses—like fight, flight, freeze, or fawn
Understand your nervous system states and why they’re showing up
Build somatic tools to regulate in real time—so you can meet anxiety as it’s happening
Rewire old responses and create embodied patterns of safety and connection
As you learn to partner with your body—not override it—you begin to experience real relief, not just short-term symptom management.
What is The Body-Based Anxiety Method™?
The Body-Based Anxiety Method™ is a trauma-informed somatic coaching process developed by somatic anxiety coach Alicia Divers, that helps you move from managing symptoms to actually shifting the patterns beneath them.
It’s designed for people who’ve done the therapy, read the books, and learned the tools—but still find anxiety showing up in their chest, breath, and gut. This isn’t because you’ve failed. It’s because your nervous system needs something different.
This is not talk therapy.
It’s not about powering through or calming down.
It’s about learning how to listen to your body—and practicing what it actually needs.
The Four Methods of the Pillar
〰️
The Four Methods of the Pillar 〰️
Awareness
We begin by mapping your nervous system. Using tools from polyvagal theory, we identify your unique patterns of stress and protection—like fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. You’ll learn to recognize your body’s cues and responses, so you can meet yourself with curiosity instead of self-blame. This awareness practice is foundational to nervous system regulation.
Resourcing
Your body can’t heal in a state of threat. Here, we build a foundation of somatic resourcing: orienting, grounding, breathwork, and movement practices that help your system return to safety. We’ll co-create a toolkit that works for your nervous system—not just generic coping skills.
Repatterning
This is where we interrupt the old loops. Through gentle, body-based experiments, we work with neuroplasticity to build new patterns—like speaking up without freezing, or resting without guilt. You’ll practice real-time regulation strategies that support change from the inside out.
Integration
Healing isn’t just what happens in a session—it’s how you live between them. Integration helps you bring your somatic tools into daily life: how you eat, sleep, speak, relate, and make decisions. This pillar ensures that the work becomes embodied—not just understood.
This Work Is For You If…
You want more than symptom management—you want real change.
This work is for you if you’re ready to:
Sleep through the night without waking up in a panic
Speak clearly without second-guessing every word
Catch yourself before spiraling, and actually know what to do
Feel calm in your body—not just manage anxious thoughts
Trust your gut again—and listen to it
Enjoy rest without guilt
Move through the world with less reactivity and more choice
Show up in your relationships without overfunctioning
Finally feel at home in your body
This isn’t about fixing yourself.
It’s about partnering with your body—so you can live from a place of nervous system regulation, not survival.
Inside a Somatic Coaching Session
Somatic coaching is not talk therapy. It’s not mindset work. It’s not a cognitive strategy to override what you feel.
It’s something much more foundational—and sometimes much slower.
This work invites you to tune in rather than push through.
To notice instead of analyze.
To try—gently, awkwardly—something new.
That might look like pausing to track your breath, trying on a new posture, humming to stimulate the vagus nerve, or simply noticing where tension lives in your body.
We might work with movement, sensation, sound, or stillness—tools that help you regulate in real time and rebuild a sense of safety, from the inside out.
For some, this is unfamiliar territory. Not everyone feels comfortable here at first. That’s okay.
Because this work is developmental.
We’re returning to the basics of what every human needs to feel safe—attunement, movement, breath, connection. And for many of us, those foundations were disrupted early or over time. Somatic coaching gives you a way to re-pattern them with care.
It’s not a straight line. Each nervous system is different.
But through this method, you’ll learn how to recognize your body’s signals, respond with clarity, and slowly re-organize what’s been held in the background.
This is not a quick fix. But it is real change.
And over time, the things that once felt overwhelming begin to feel workable—because you’re finally working with your body, not against it.

FAQs
What is somatic anxiety coaching?
Somatic anxiety coaching is a body-based approach to working with anxiety. Instead of focusing only on thoughts or coping strategies, it helps you understand how anxiety lives in your nervous system—and gives you tools to shift it directly. Through body-based practices, we explore your stress responses (like fight, flight, freeze, or fawn), build regulation skills, and help your body feel safe enough to relax and respond with more choice.
How is somatic coaching different from therapy?
While both can be healing, somatic coaching is not therapy. We don’t analyze your past or diagnose mental health conditions. Instead, we focus on present-moment awareness, nervous system education, and body-based experiments that help you shift long-held patterns. Many of my clients have already done years of therapy and find this work is the missing piece—the part that helps their body finally feel what their mind already knows.
Do I have to talk about my trauma?
No. This work is trauma-informed and Somatic Experiencing–trained, but it’s not trauma-processing in the traditional sense. You don’t need to retell your story to experience relief. Instead, we work gently with what’s showing up in the here and now—like tension in your chest or shallow breath—and build capacity from there. I’ve been trained through Somatic Experiencing, a body-based trauma resolution modality, and I work carefully to create a pace and process your nervous system can safely handle..
What does a somatic session actually look like?
A typical session might include checking in, noticing sensations in your body, experimenting with breath or movement, or exploring your stress responses through guided somatic practices. You’ll be invited to slow down, track what’s happening in your body, and learn tools to support regulation. Every session is personalized and grounded in safety—not performance or productivity.
Can somatic coaching help with panic attacks or chronic stress?
Yes. Many clients come to me struggling with chronic stress, panic, or anxiety that doesn’t respond to cognitive tools. Somatic work helps regulate your nervous system at the root level, which can reduce the intensity, frequency, and overwhelm of these experiences. It’s not about fixing you—it’s about helping your body feel safe again.
Where are you located, and do you work with clients outside NYC?
Yes. I offer 1:1 coaching both online and in-person at Brooklyn Mindbody Collective in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The Body-Based Anxiety Method™ is designed to work effectively in either setting. Whether you’re based in New York City or across the globe, we can build a consistent, supportive somatic practice that works for your body and your schedule. I’m happy to work with international clients as well.
